"Ok… but did you do that, or did the AI?"

The things that actually matter haven't changed: asking the right questions, understanding the business problem, making the right trade-offs, spotting what's wrong or irrelevant, and deciding what not to do.
AI can help you explore those — but it doesn't carry the accountability. You can't delegate that whole list to AI alone and consider it covered.
The New Role
Using AI isn't delegating your work. It's shifting where your responsibility sits.
You go from "I produce" to "I direct, I validate, I decide."
Think about it — an architect doesn't lay bricks, a head chef doesn't chop every vegetable, a film director doesn't hold the camera. Nobody questions their value because they use tools and teams to execute their vision.

The danger isn't AI itself. The danger is using AI without understanding what it gives you. Accepting answers without questioning them. Letting your own thinking muscles atrophy.

Instead of "Did you do this or did the AI?", the question worth asking is:
"Would you have known what the right choices were without it?"
If the answer is yes, AI is amplifying your value. If the answer is no, AI is just papering over a gap.
The Bottom Line
AI doesn't devalue work. It strips away an illusion — one where producing and understanding were treated as the same thing.
Going forward, the people who matter most won't be those who execute the fastest. They'll be the ones who understand deeply, think clearly, and decide well.
Everyone else? They might ship faster. But not necessarily better.
